The Village at Le Murier
His Excellency is the patron of the charity and supports their newest initiative to build wooden structures on the grounds to help young people learn how to live independently. The plan was started just before covid but stalled when the building industry in Guernsey became overworked and the plans needed reworking. They are now in a place to continue to work and have secured a good part of the funding but are still looking for people to support the project.
From their website:
Friends of Le Murier is a charity set up to support our school's progressive and comprehensive residential and outdoor learning programmes.
These opportunities support our students to develop skills for life, including; independence, teamwork, resilience. We aim to provide all students with a variety of opportunities for residential learning both locally and off island. We ask for parental contributions towards this but don't want financial costs to be a limiting factor. Friends of Le Murier support this programme primarily with funds raised during our annual Everest Challenge. This support is essential for us to continue to offer these opportunities for our students.
The reception was held at Government House to thank those who have already supported the building of The Village in so many ways and also to bring together members of the community who may be in a position to help move their plans forward.
Gary Dovey from Le Murier School did a presentation to a room full of people showcasing this excellent community project and what they would like to achieve for the young people of Guernsey.
