The Royal Guernsey Agricultural and Horticultural Show
His Excellency went to the States Meeting in Alderney on August 26th. He was scheduled to return to Guernsey on Aurigny at lunchtime, in time to make it to the Royal Show...and then the fog rolled in... Every Island resident knows how he felt as another's night's lodging was secured and a frustrated Lieutenant-Governor returned to St Anne's, forced to hand the afternoon's reigns over to his wife.
However, Mrs Cripwell was delighted to find herself being pressed into service to take His Excellency's place presenting the cups and trophies at the Annual show held at Saumarez Park. Originally Mrs Cripwell was going to be attending to co-judge the horses, being a keen horsewoman herself. But she was very happy to find herself also surrounded by beautiful Guernsey cows, sheep and goats paraded by proud Guernsey farmers and some very small, but equally proud would-be Guernsey Farmers as well... the photo of the happy little girl below was on the Facebook page for the Royal Show.
Mrs Cripwell thoroughly enjoyed herself, staying hours longer than originally planned and returning to Government House somewhat windswept and confident she had learned a whole lot more about our island life.
