The Guernsey Goat Show at Government House

The early morning rain hammered on hardy participants as the goat keepers arrived and stall holders tried to set up, with some of the goats refusing to leave the warmth of their vans and their owners keen to join them inside. But the Guernsey weather rallied and by the time we were ready to open the gates, the sun was shining, the grass was drying and the people were starting to arrive. With opportunities to pet the goats and owners on hand to tell anybody and everybody about the joys of owning goats, we believe The Guernsey Goat Show has the capacity to become an established and popular date in the Guernsey calendar. 

A family-friendly day out celebrating one of the Bailiwick’s most distinctive agricultural breeds. With free entry, the show featured goats of all ages and breeds, alongside judging by an experienced British Goat Society judge, a wide range of local stalls, competitions, refreshments and activities for all ages. Visitors also had the opportunity to meet members of the local goat-keeping community and learn more about the important role goats continue to play in Guernsey’s rural heritage.

A particular highlight being the presence of the Royal Golden Guernsey Goats, a rare breed with deep roots in the Island and an enduring connection to Guernsey’s agricultural history.
