St John's Voluntary Service
Long Service awards and a coronation medal were presented to volunteers by the Lieutenant-Governor.
An awards ceremony at Government House saw the presentation of seven medals for long and efficient service be awarded to volunteer members of the St Johns Ambulance service. Wonderful recognition for their dedication to the benefit of the community for members who have provided a valuable service to the organisation over many years. Another seven members were unable to attend the ceremony and will receive their awards at a future date.
Alongside the long service awards was the presentation of the Coronation Medal to Alan Stevens, one of their long-standing members who was the only volunteer from St John Guernsey who got the opportunity to attend the coronation of their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla last year. He applied for, and was chosen to attend the coronation and formed part of the Honour Guard lining the route.
The members of St John also took the opportunity to bestow a personal gift of thanks to John Hollis who is standing down from his role as Knight Commander due to ill health. The gifts included an engraved photo frame containing a picture of John meeting His Majesty King Charles III on his recent visit to Guernsey.
Another lively event as people mingled and enjoyed the opportunity to relax, catch up with friends and colleagues and His Excellency and Mrs Cripwell congratulated members of the St John's community.
