St John Long Service Awards

The Service Medal was instituted in 1892 and is awarded to recognise long and efficient service to the Order of St John and its Establishments.

The Service Medal is the only British medal still to bear an effigy of Queen Victoria. It is included in the United Kingdom Order of Wear, as published in 2003 by the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood.

It is the only medal of its kind where service as a young person is counted towards an individual’s entitlement.

This year there were 5 recipients of service awards ranging from 10 to 35 years of service.

There were also special awards for Phil Ozanne, a well known face in the community, who retired after 38 years of service, Anthony Leach retiring after 35 years and Paul Kennedy who served for 32 years.

And finally, one special Certificate of Recognition for a St John Cadet who has utilised their skills and knowledge in a community setting. This went to Hannah Falla who assisted a friend who became unwell while attending a public event, even whilst off duty.
