Sports Commission Awards 2022
Twelve awards were presented a at Beau Sejour which celebrates the achievements of individuals and teams that have performed to an outstanding level in 2022.
His Excellency has taken a very keen interest in the sports played in the Islands since taking up his post back in March this year and said he felt honoured to be asked to present the awards and meet some of the shining stars within the Bailiwick.
We had some incredible performance at the Commonwealth games this year with two medals awarded to Lucy Beere MBE and Alastair Chalmers and it was a very deserving Lucy Beere who took the title of Top sportswoman of the Year.
The top award for the night though, went to Bristol City soccer star, Alex Scott who is now in his third season with the Premier League football team and was awarded the cup for Outstanding Performer of the Year.
Some of these incredible athletes will be honing their skills over the next 6 months and we will see many of them in the Island Games, finally taking place in Guernsey in July 2023 where the eagle-eyed will find the Lieutenant-Governor and Mrs Cripwell donning their volunteer t-shirts and helping out at the games or cheering on the teams of Guernsey, Alderney and Sark as they compete for medals and glory.
