RBL Poppy Appeal

The Lieutenant-Governor held a reception was held for those involved with the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

His Excellency invited the volunteers to a reception at Government House to thank them for their work raising valuable funds for those affected by conflict and after a day spent in the States listening to the Budget debate, he was especially pleased to meet such a happy and dedicated group of people.

There are two branches of the RBL in Guernsey and they work together for the Poppy Appeal that supports members of the Armed forces, veterans and their families.

We were very grateful also to Mr Peter Burkhardt who contacted Government House prior to the reception to offer us the loan of a number of artworks to display.

They were a series of twenty-one watercolours painted from the front line by his grandfather, Colonel Valentine Rodolphe Burkhardt DSO OBE. They were completed between December 1918 and 1920 during the occupation of the Rhine.

It is an incredible group of paintings and they will be displayed at St Peter's Church throughout the rest of November.
