Planting with Guernsey Trees for Life
Guernsey Trees for Life (GTFL) aims to plant over 1000 tree and hedge plants every season in Guernsey and each year they invite landowners to apply for the charity to plant trees on their site enabled by their main sponsors, Channel Island Fuels who's generous donations pay for the purchase of the trees.
But planting trees also requires volunteers to don their waterproofs, grab a spade and get those trees in the ground. Many corporates, school and organisations have planted areas across the island as part of a team building exercise and a desire to contribute to the community and Government House is no different. So a team comprising His Excellency, his ADC, office and house staff and their over-qualified gardeners headed up to Bordeaux on a cold and wet Monday morning and planted 100 trees in just over an hour. We may have covered the car in mud and be picking woodchips out of our hair for the rest of the day, but we certainly earned those bacon sandwiches.
