Lighting the Beacon

His Excellency on the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, closely watched by the Castle Keepers 

After a reading by the Deputy Bailiff on the top of the Citadel at Castle Cornet, His Excellency, resplendent in number 2 dress, lights the beacon marking the 80th Anniversary of D-Day when Allied forces landed 132,500 troops on Normandy beaches during the Second World War. 

The beacon lighting is happening simultaneously in places all over the United Kingdom, The Crown Dependencies and  UK Overseas Territories.
