Lieutenant-Governor's Conference
This year, the meeting was in the Isle of Man hosted by Sir John Lorimer
The Office of the Lieutenant-Governor in the Isle of Man had a jam-packed programme for the other Lieutenant-Governors from Jersey and Guernsey, meticulously organised and designed to show off the island at its best. His Excellency was accompanied by his wife, Louise and his ADC, Major Marco Ciotti.
They visited Heroes on the Water, the village of Cregneash and The Sound and of course, enjoyed a pint of local brew, Bushy's Ale. There was a visit to the Manx Museum to learn about their National Heritage and a trip to the Laxey Woollen Mills. This was all followed by a trip up Snaefell Summit on the Electric Tram before stopping off to watch part of the TT race practises. They then had a tour of Tynwald and the legislative buildings and a walk around Peel Castle and Knockaloe, returning to Douglas via Glen Maye and Niarbel.
Amongst all this entertainment, the three Lieutenant-Governor's found time to talk about the difficulties of office that are presented to their unique position as Lt-Governors of the only three Crown dependencies. The three ADC's and the three wives also get an excellent opportunity to talk with their counterparts in the other islands that helps them to share issues and learn alternative ways of approaching their individual positions.
