Lieutenant-Governor wins big at the South Show!
The first of the Summer Shows was opened by His Excellency and Mrs Cripwell on August 11th having enjoyed a bumper number of entries this year.
Nearly a thousand items of local produce, arts and crafts were entered from those in the parishes of Forest, St Peter Port, St Andrews and Forest and this year, it included 19 entries from the House and Garden staff at Government House. Their entries varied from baked goods to flowers and vegetables grown in their walled garden, stunning flower arrangements and even some pieces of artwork. several prizes were won in many of the classes and the staff who didn't are ever more determined to try again next year.
But this year's crowning glory was the Lieutenant-Governor himself, who entered the 'Mens Only' baking class. This year they were tasked with making blueberry muffins, all using the same recipe. We must confess to having been somewhat awash with blueberry muffins in the office for a few days as His Excellency baked up a storm practicing his craft and we were enlisted to critique his performance... It was all worth it in the end, as much to all our amusement, His Excellency did win First Prize in the class and we confess to all feeling just a little bit proud.
We shall be back in force with our entries again next year and we hope to see many more entries from islanders from across the parishes.
