Gold Awards for the Girl Guides

Mrs Cripwell, as patron the Girl guiding Guernsey, was thrilled to play host to a group of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and their families and leaders at a lively reception at Government House to celebrate gaining their Gold awards. It is the first time these awards have been presented by Mrs Cripwell and it was a decidedly lovely, and dare I say, cute event. Even Mustard can be see getting in on the act as Mrs Cripwell was presenting awards to twins Emilia and Mya Leale. 

It was the day before 'World Thinking Day', an important national event in the Girl Guide and Girl Scouts Calendar where they are encouraged to celebrate friendship, sisterhood and empowerment, creating awareness of issues that affect girls and young women. The Guides normally renew their promise at around this day so they had asked if those present could do so at the reception, having also asked Mrs Cripwell if she too would make the Girl guide promise as an Honorary Member of their Group.   

On the front page are the Brownies and Guides taking their pledge with Mrs Cripwell and Maddie Vaudin, one of the Lieutenant-Governors Cadets who was helping at the presentation evening.

The awards are available to all sections (Rainbows 4 to 7 years, Brownies 7 to 10 years, Guides 10 to 14 years and Rangers 14 to 18 years).

To gain a Gold Award the girls need to have completed 6 Theme awards and an extra challenge which changes depending upon their age group. The Theme awards are awarded when they have completed a Skills Builder and an Interest Badge. All the activities are fun to do but it takes dedication to complete the number of hours needed and these girls have put in the time and energy required.
