Gold Awards for Guides
Its always such a special and unusual occasion to have the ballroom at Government House filled with excited young girls, ages ranging from 6 up to their late teens. Mrs Cripwell is patron of Girlguiding Guernsey and loves this occasion almost as much as Mustard the dog.
To gain a Gold Award the girls need to have completed 6 Theme awards and an extra Gold challenge which changes depending upon their age group. All the activities are fun to do but it takes dedication to complete the number of hours needed and these girls have put in the time and energy required.
Energy was certainly something not lacking in the 23 young ladies who descended upon Government House on a cold evening in February. Accompanied by their proud parents or carers and their enthusiastic Leaders, it was a noisy occasion filled with happy smiles and some wonderful comments from some of the young Rainbows. One was rather anticipating for her badge to be awarded by the King which seems a fair expectation given the rather grand room they found themselves in. And the Commissioner of Girlguiding Guernsey, Colette Merrien, shared with us the her granddaughter's thoughts on Government House...
"It's very fancy... is Mrs Cripwell the Queen? Her house is very palace like. Can we buy it? Me and Elliott would have great fun playing tag and "floor is lava"!!
