Girlguiding Guernsey at Government House
This weekend, 19th to 20th July, over 40 guides aged 10 to 14 and their leaders will hold an overnight camp in the grounds of Government House. The girls will be competing for their outdoor challenge to win the Randall Cup which will be 100 years old this year.
Guide Adviser, Amy Madden said “we were thrilled to be invited by Lady Cripwell, our Patron, to hold our challenge at Government House as this is the centenary of the Cup. To celebrate the guides will be taking part in activities from each of the decades based on those girls would have recognised in that year. These will include knotting and compass games, Kims game, Twister and a life size Pacman and a science experiment. There will be a campfire of old and new songs on Saturday night and a lunch of the sorts of food girls would have had at camps through the years. Lady Cripwell will visit on Sunday afternoon to present the girls with their special time traveller badges and the Randall Cup to the winning Unit.”
Guides in Guernsey have been competing for the Randall Cup every year. The competition varies every year but has to have an outdoor element. This year the girls will get points for each of the activities they take part in over the 24 hours of the camp with the unit that has the most points winning the cup and keeping it for the next 12 months.
