Girlguides receiving their Gold Awards

Mrs Cripwell, as patron of Girlguiding Guernsey, presented 23 awards to girls who had completed their Gold awards within the last year. They received a certificate and either a pin badge or a cloth badge to sew on their uniforms.

To gain a Gold Award the girls need to have completed 6 Theme awards and an extra challenge which changes depending upon their age group. The Theme awards are awarded when they have completed a Skills Builder and an Interest Badge. All the activities are fun to do but it takes dedication to complete the number of hours needed and these girls have put in the time and energy required.

It was a noisy and excited crowd who arrived for their awards with parents and leaders accompanying 23 girls aged from 6 up to 16, who were to receive awards from Mrs Cripwell. Some of the girls had brought along their posters and scrapbooks compiled for their final challenge and some of the girls were proudly wrapped in blankets bearing all the badges sewn around the edges. Every girl had certainly challenged their mother or their grandmother's sewing skills over the years as their uniforms displayed a dazzling array of colourful sewn on patches. It was a lovely event with the happy buzz of children keen to have their photos taken and show off their commitment to their pack.
