Festung Guernsey

From their Website:

Festung Guernsey is an initiative instigated by professional groups and individuals with an interest in WWII fortifications with support from the States of Guernsey Museum Services. Their aim is to make available to the public, visiting historic societies and academics examples of the most important fortifications built in Guernsey by the German occupying forces between 1940-45.

His Excellency and Mrs Cripwell went to meet with some of the Committee members and volunteers who have done so much work to make these sites accessible to the public. They had a tour around the whole site at the Batterie Mirus before heading out to Fort Hommet, one of only three traditional Martello Towers in the Bailiwick, where they visited the personnel bunker, the M19 automatic mortar bunker and the 60cm searchlight bunker.

His Excellency was hugely impressed with the work that has been undertaken and thanked the committee and volunteers for devoting so much time to maintaining keeping this part of the Bailiwick's history alive.
