Duke of Edinburgh Awards for Le Murier
Prince Philip, the Late Duke of Edinburgh always considered this award scheme one of his better ideas.
The students have to complete four sections at bronze and silver level. They involve helping the community, becoming fitter, developing new skills and completing an expedition.
His Excellency once again hosted Le Murier School students who gained their Bronze and Silver Awards in the past 2 years, always a fantastic achievement and very well supported at the school by the staff and their parents at home who understand the value of this kind of commitment outside of their studies.
Sixteen students were at Government House to collect their Bronze certificates and badges on this occasion, with a further five who had been unable to attend the evening. Some of the groups did their final expedition in Guernsey and some were able to go off island and do their two day expedition in Alderney.
Two of the students were also collecting Silver awards with who headed out to the New Forest to complete three days of walking and two night camping where the terrain is very different to our familiar Guernsey tracks and coastlines making the map reading just that little bit more challenging!
All the young people have learnt new and valuable skills throughout their experience, not least their commitment to difficult tasks and problem solving, that will continue to serve them well throughout their lives.
