Community Summer Party
A summer celebration for volunteers of charities and some of our workers in Community Aid.
The Lieutenant-Governor and Mrs Cripwell hosted a summer party at Government House for charity volunteers and community health workers who had been invited to the King's Birthday Reception this year before the weather forecast forced a move to the wet weather plan. It was a wonderful opportunity to dress up and dust off that hat that these hard working members of the Community have been saving for just such an event.
Unfortunately, the weather was not kind to us again that morning and an hour before the guests were due to arrive, it started to rain and by the time they were parking in the grounds, it was pouring. The guest list had been planned to be small enough to move indoors so the dripping gazebos and bunting were abandoned in the garden and the furniture moved aside to allow access to three rooms within the house.
Despite the forecast, the guests had turned out in a wonderful array of colourful outfits and fabulous hats and the happy buzz throughout the house was music to our ears. Each Lieutenant-Governor is able to add their own personal stamp on the decorations around the house and he and Mrs Cripwell are particularly interested in art and furnishings and have covered the walls with a huge array of local art, purchased from local artists or borrowed from Guernsey Museum in addition to some of the own artwork from their travels abroad. The guests were thrilled to have a chance to enjoy many these additions to the house alongside some wonderful pictures of the Royal Family.
His Excellency and Mrs Cripwell very much enjoyed meeting with so many of these wonderful islanders and hope to have the chance to meet many more.
