Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022

The Lieutenant-Governor and Mrs Cripwell represented the Island as our Head of State in Birmingham.

His Excellency and Mrs Cripwell were not spotted but were, nonetheless, vigorously waving the Guernsey Flag at the Games alongside the Bailiff who was also clearly thrilled to be able to support the island this year.

A 28 strong squad went to Birmingham with sports ranging from triathlon to boxing to bowls. His Excellency has his own favourite sports but in truth he's quite a 'sportaphile' and was just looking forward to watching some excellent competition, cheering on his team and quietly keeping those fingers crossed that we bring home a medal.

And didn't we do well??!! Huge congratulations to both Lucy Beere and Alistair Chalmers for bringing home the Silver medal in Bowls and the Bronze in the 400m hurdles. Our first medals in 28 years and we won two. An incredible feat by two amazing athletes.

And not forgetting some wonderful performances from all our competitors. You put Guernsey on the map again and we are all basking in your glory.
