Ladies College Girls taking up challenge for Government House Green survey

Ladies' College girls, under the guidance of Science Teacher, Dr Marshall, have already looked at the carbon footprint of their own site and were pleased to be asked to have a look at Government House to see what initiatives we could take up here.

Some of the girls met with the Head Gardener and also Sharon Hickman from the Pollinator Project to discuss adding a pollinator patch to the garden near the beehives. Other girls are building on a tree survey done in 2017 to measure the size of some of the trees around the property. Another girl went to speak with some of the house staff to look at our waste collection and composting capabilities.

Two of the girls also took the opportunity to have a chat with Adam Heaume from the Meteorological Office as they are looking to build their own weather station and were interested to see the component parts of the one we have stationed at GH.

The girls have also looked at our transport usage, capacity for solar panels and our oil, water and electricity consumption rates.

An ongoing project hoping to yield some interesting results that we can work with.
