Scouts Long Service Awards
With more than 10 Scout groups in Guernsey and Alderney there are many opportunities to help and these volunteers dedicate time on a weekly, monthly or occasional basis. Some just start as volunteers when their own children become scouts and then remain long after their children have moved on and others come through the Scout Association themselves to continue as leaders and give back to that community that has helped to nurture them.
His Excellency presented 25 awards and whilst we celebrate the achievements and service of all these amazing people, keen to do their best for the young people they nurture, there was one especially poignant award on this occasion. Amy Woodland will be the last person in the Bailiwick to receive the Queen's Scout Award and she received hers on the very day that Queen Elizabeth II died. Amy has since been called to London to take part in the celebrations for the life of the Queen alongside 120 other recipients of the Queen's Scout Award.
