Guernsey Government House

A World of Iconic Women

For International Women's Day, the team for Women in Public Life asked for nominations of iconic women born in the home country of women living here in Guernsey.

They then constructed a map of Guernsey covered in the flags of each of those nominations and 51 flags were represented on that map. 51 countries represented within our tiny island. We are maybe a lot more diverse than most islanders would have thought!

The Lieutenant-Governor was very pleased to welcome representatives from each of those 51 countries and the team from Women in Public Life to a reception at Government House where we attempted to recreate that flag with the guests.

Paul Chambers took a photograph through the window of the top floor and His Excellency was able to show off his drone piloting skills to capture the flags under the outline of the Guernsey flag. It went remarkably well and all were able to enjoy the fabulous weather and the company of some fascinating Women in Public Life in the Island.
