Guernsey Government House

Guernsey Disability Swimming LBG

On Thursday 1st October, His Excellency and Lady Corder will present a QAVS Award to the Guernsey Disability Swimming LBG ("GDS") at Beau Sejour.  GDS was relaunched in 2015 and enables people with physical or learning disabilities to participate safely both in swimming and socially, with others.

GDS is the only charity in Guernsey providing this service and currently has 48 users on their register, ranging in age from 11 to 75.  Operating throughout the year, around 16 swimmers attend each weekly session.

As the equivalent of an MBE for volunteer groups, The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service ("QAVS")  is the highest award available to local volunteer groups. The Award recognises outstanding work by voluntary organisations to benefit their local communities and  was created in 2002 to celebrate The Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Congratulations to team at the Guernsey Disability Swimming LBG from us all at Government House!
