Guernsey Government House

Round the Island Walk

On Sunday, His Excellency was joined by his son Alex and two Lieutenant-Governor's Cadets, Jacob Brady and Jack Vaudin, to undertake a 39-mile trek around Guernsey on behalf of all those who were unable to participate in this year's Saffery Rotary Walk.

The event is held annually, however public participation in this year's walk - planned for 6th June - was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

His Excellency was therefore delighted to accept an invitation from the event organisers to undertake the walk as a tribute to all those who were unable to do so in 2020 adding "The Saffrey Rotary Walk is one of the great Guernsey events in our annual calendar.  It's loss this year is felt by so many people and in many different ways.  I was therefore very pleased when the walk organisers suggested that when the time was right, I put on the shirt and complete the walk by way of acknowledgement of what we may have lost this year - but equally to symbolise that Guernsey's spirit is not broken by the events of recent months."

Whilst no sponsorship funds were raised for the walk this year, many individuals kindly donated their registration fees to the charities involved.

The Saffrey Rotary Walk will return on Saturday 5th June 2021.
