The Lady Taverners is the ladies "arm" of the Lord's Taverners which is the UK's leading youth cricket and disability sports charity whose objective is to give disadvantaged and disabled young people a sporting chance.
Our mission is to enhance the lives of disadvantaged and disabled young people through sport and recreation.
Our programmes support some of the most marginalised and 'at risk' young people. We create a range of opportunities for young people where there is deprivation, and for those with disabilities, to engage in sport and recreational activities in their local communities.
The first Lady Taverners group was set up in 1986 in Guernsey, one year before it started in the UK. We are a group of around 100 ladies who meet approximately once per month and aim to raise money to then grant back to Guernsey's young people to enable access to sport. We have strong ties with the two special needs schools on the island, Le Murier and Le Rondin, for whom we provide equipment and we enjoy welcoming students and staff from both schools to our events. We continue to support many sports clubs and societies on the island, providing funding and equipment, for example for boxing, football, sailing, horse riding and cricket.
